A Little in memory of waththahena school

The closer school to waththahena was situated in doloswalakanda.The children in waththahena had to go that school to learn.but it was very difficult . because, inconvenience of roads.small children wanted a school to learn because increasing the people in the village. Hence Piyathissa Thero planed to start a school in preaching hall of the temple. young generation gave there support it.The controller of Mandadola Estate Mr.B. Persy Perera was specially among the helpers. Lack of teachers was the main problem in the school.Though Mr. Sirisena & Mr. Gunarathna came & tough some days. People who were in the village could not pay there salary. In this time Mr. Nahalwathura came back to the village.Mr. Henri Haputhanthri met him & asked to start a school & teach in his vacation, so Mr. Nahalwathura start his works in 1956.Then every child who can go school,was came to this school from every home. In this time educational officers wer to arogate this school to government. In this time Mr. D.F. Hettiarachchi was the M.P. in Rathnapura distric. as a result of his effort he could to register this school as a government school in 1957. Mr. Ananda Wimalasena was the first teacher of waththahena school.
